We want to show you some of the places around New York State. We love to go camping with the kids. They really enjoy it. Every summer we go wilderness camping in the Hanging Bog in Allegany County near Cuba Lake. No potty, water, shower, bed microwave, refrigerator, oven, etc. I can handle it without modern conveniences for four or five days without going insane. In the morning the kids try to catch butterflies. We each have our own butterfly nets that we made. We enjoy a refreshing swim in the chilly creek. The kids try to catch crayfish and minnows and end up falling into water. In the evening we relax around the campfire. Telling stories, making pies, or roasting marshmallows. Andrea; only seven months old; was alert to her surroundings that she tried not to miss a thing. It was her first time in a float on Cuba Lake. She took to it like a fish. It was great to watch her kick her feet and laugh as she move about in the water under our supervision.
In August we always rent a cabin in Allegany State park. We reserve a cabin next to a creek so the can play in the water. So, we can sit and relax. We go to the Cattaraugus County Fair in Little Valley. We spend the day there and for six dollars each for admission the kids ride the rides all day. Then, we see the demolition derby and the kids really enjoy watching it. The rest of the week is full of hikes, walks, and looking for wild animals and birds.
